i went to help out at DEAF-initely Boleh today! it was much more fun than i expected haha. although i had to sit there for hours and man e booth (mostly by myself coz my boss was out socializing most of e time) i thought it was a pretty fulfilling day. n i learnt alot frm chatting to my boss n frm listening to her talk to other clients :)this is one part of society which ive nv had much encounter w. it sure OPENed my eyess. had to explain e workings of e gadgets to so many pp today! n bcoz its an event to create awareness abt e hearing-impaired community in spore, there were many deaf/hard-of-hearing pp present. totally unable to communicate w them! i felt like i was e one tt was handicapped n not them. its amazing how they communicate to each other thru sign language (n they sign reeeaally fast!) i made do w simple improvised signs hahaha. they were v nice n understanding abt it though! :) manymany heartwarming incidences today :)
i met..
1. filial sons n daughters who wanted to help their parents out of isolation n frm giving up on themselves due to their inability to hear n communicate as they used to.
2. worried parents who have hearing-impaired children n want to do whatever they can to make their child feel better ard pp n to accept n deal w their own conditions.
3. loving couples made up of one hearing-impaired n one w perfect hearing, still being able to get along perfectly well n to tease n joke ard like normal couples.sometimes i wonder wat we ordinary fortunate pp are always complaining abt when we are blessed w good health to enjoy e music+colour+simplejoys of life. many of e handicapped pp i encountered today seem more cheerful n happier than us. tts wat life is abt isnt it? to learn to accept e hard facts of life, embrace urself as who u r n to live life to e fullest :)today, i m enlightened.
